Scotts Story

On Americas Independence Day the 4th of July 2010 while preparing to ride in the Mineral County Colorados Parade the unthinkable happened.Mineral County Deputy Sheriff Scott Warrington while preparing to exercise his horse before the parade that morning went to mount his steed but his steed spooked at the exact moment Scott was almost on him.In doing so, Scott fell backwards three to four feet onto his head landing atop rocks and hard dirt.Although there were only slight outward signs of trauma this turn of events caused what is known to many as a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

That morning Scotts dad and mom were preparing to come to town to see their son carry the Colorado State Flag at the beginning of the parade a task he had performed the two years previous as the Deputy Sheriff in Mineral County on the same horse.Scott had found a piece of flag cloth and was also excited to have his dad and mom, show off his new black lab puppy Jet proudly wearing the United States colors.Unfortunately, that day changed in an instant for his entire family!Since the cell phone towers in Creede do not typically work due to the amount of people in the area during that time a local store vender in Creede saw his mom and informed her of the sad news.

Scott was taken by ambulance to Del Norte and then transferred to Monte Vistas Airport where he was flown out flight for life on a fixed wing aircraft with his mother to Saint Anthonys Hospital in Denver, Colorado where he spent ten days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).His father staying behind to tie up loose ends as Scott has two black Labrador retrievers,a Tobiano horse and a side neck turtle. Then his father drove to Denver to be by his wifes and sons side.

After spending ten days in the ICU, Scott was transferred to Craig Hospital in Denver Colorado to start his rehabilitation with physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, pool staff, and doctors all in accordance with workmans comp.Within a little over two months Scott was moved from the inpatient program at Craig Hospital to an outpatient program at Craig Hospital.Scotts biggest complaint all along being a forth cranial nerve injury sustained during the initial fall.If Scott had anything good to say about the stay he had during his three months would be the rehabilitation dogs that came to visit each week and the Denver Police Department that also came to visit each week, bringingsupport and prayers that continue to this day.

Scott having had a horrific accident on the 4th of July has made a great and quick recovery in terms of a brain injury recently having been tested to show his brain has healed to a point that resembles his brain function before the accident and has passed his Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) test again having no restrictions enforced in terms of work or driving. His neurologist (neurology is the medical field/study of the human nervous system. The nervous system encompasses the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles) and physiatrist (rehabilitation physicians or specialized medical doctors who have completed training in the medical specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) both conclude that Scott is ready to return to his duty as deputy sheriff in Mineral County. This all being documented through workmans comp and although the 4th of July 2010 turned out to be a horrific day for Scott and his family, Scott is looking forward to returning to his life and job, his family is too..
